Since opening in 2007, the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons has been associated with the most notable of Hollywood legends, from Audrey Hepburn, to Grace Kelly, Michael Jackson and many more.
Continuing this association, Newbridge Silverware is delighted to announce the visit of yet another living legend - Ms. Tippi Hedren, on her very first visit to Ireland.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Tippi Hedren, the last of Alfred Hitchcock's glamorous blondes and star of the movie, The Birds 1963.
Tippi Hedren, "The Birds"Tippi`s appearance at Newbridge Silverware signals a new era for the recently enhanced Museum of Style Icons. The new extension now includes a host of additional Hollywood legends, from Elizabeth Taylor, to Jayne Mansfield, Katharine Hepburn and many more.
This visit is indeed a poignant one for Ms. Hedren as she will be reunited with her most notable garment from The Birds - the original two piece green wool suit she wore as the character Melanie Daniels. This Edith Head designed garment is part of the permanent collection at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons.
The Birds (1963) is regarded as a Hitchcock masterpiece but it is the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren that continues to cause worldwide interest. Their story is almost as engaging and horrific as the movies that they made together. Over time Hitchcock notably became obsessed by Tippi and sought to control each aspect of her life. Tippi succeeded in standing her ground against this most powerful force in the Movie industry. However his obsession eventually led to the ruination of her movie career. The battles Tippi fought with the legendary film director are being chronicled in a BBC2 biopic, The Girl, starring Sienna Miller as the object of Hitchcock's infatuation. Tippi acted as advisor on the movie and is scheduled to see it for the first time on June 4th or 5th
Hedren is the mother of actress Melanie Griffith, with whom she shares credits on several productions, notably Pacific Heights (1990).
Tippi Hedren has also dedicated her life to animal rescue efforts.
In 1969 she began her love affair with wilds animals while filming, Satans Harvest in Africa. She 'met' a mellow lion, and much of her life since then has been devoted to the big cats. In 1983 she founded the Roar Foundation and Shambala Preserve, an animal preserve outside Los Angeles. It houses over 65 animals. Shambala also became the home for Michael Jackson's two Bengal tigers after he closed his Neverland zoo.
