The Designer
In 1873 Jakob Bengel first produced chains for watches in his German factory before commencing the design and manufacture of jewellery in the 1920’s. Bengel soon became a leader in the design and manufacture of Art Deco jewellery. Many pieces were sent to France for production due to the shortage of raw material in Germany in the late 1930’s before the outbreak of WWII. It was around this time that Bengels factory ceased production and remained undiscovered until the 1970’s. The factory is now a museum dedicated to the works of Jakob Bengel.
