Born in Austria Jonas Eisenberg emigrated to the USA in 1885 where he settled in Chicago. The company Eisenberg & Sons first traded in 1914 as a women’s clothing company with jewellery produced to decorate the clothing. The designer soon came to realise the popularity of the jewellery as the pieces were nearly always removed or stolen from the clothing and began producing stand alone pieces in the 1930’s and continued production of hand set jewellery up to the 1970’s. Eisenberg jewellery is best known for its superior craftmanship with the use of Swarovski crystals and is one of the most highly regarded makers of jewellery in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
