The Designer
It was in when Daniel Swarovski invented a machine for cutting and polishing crystal that the companies story began. His invention went on to inspire the world of fashion, jewellery and art over the next 120 years. The company became increasingly famous throughout the years and had collaborations with many designers such as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and Balenciaga. In 1956 the same year as Daniels Swarovski’s death a collaboration between the company and Christian Dior resulted in new type of crystal jewellery where a thin layer of vaporised blue metal coating was applied to the crystals. The result was a rainbow effect and was named after the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis. Swarovski’s product line has become more varied from miniatures, sculptures, figurines and collectibles to chandeliers with the company now in its fifth generation.
