The Designer
Albert Weiss opened his jewellery company in 1942 in New York after gaining experience working as an apprentice for the Coro Craft company in the 1930’s. Weiss was known for his eye for detail and use of high quality stones, many of which were sourced from Austria which in turn lead to the growth of his company throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s. He is best known for his rhinestone designs and Christmas Tree pins and gained recognition with the introduction of the smoky rhinestone, a stone that simulated ‘German Quartz’ and sometimes referred to as ‘Black Diamonds’.
The company ceased trading in 1971, two years after the founders death but the pieces created by this talented designer are one of the most collectible today.
