For the connoisseur of today, an heirloom for tomorrow.
In 1934, the new Free State Government encouraged the setting up of new manufacturing enterprises in the non-traditional areas outside the major cities. For Newbridge, inspiration came from a local school teacher, Senator Cummins, the national leader of the Labour Party – William Norton and Joe McGrath Snr who previously played an important part in the historic treaty negotiation of 1921. It was they who formed a committee to encourage local industrial development. The metal forging and linishing equipment left behind by the army combined with local know-how created a unique enterprise - The Newbridge Cutlery Company. In the face of falling demand for formal tableware, William Doyle and his team realised they had in-house capabilities for jewellery manufacturing and Newbridge Silverware is born. The first Newbridge jewellery collection encompassed the simple, elegant design ethic of the time and continues to evolve with great success today.
